Why You Need To Be Wary Of PRP “Deals”?
If you are looking to taking advantage of the newest regenerative skin treatments with cosmetic PRP and you find a “deal” that sounds too good to be true, please check the facts before purchasing your PRP treatment.
Platelet Rich Plasma therapy or PRP therapy for skin rejuvenation has become a very sought after treatment. Everyone seems to be offering this treatments at what seems to be a “Great Deal” . The reality is that the quality of PRP skin treatment varies a great deal with the different methods used to prepare your PRP. The results of your PRP treatments depend on the quality of PRP used and the treatment method.
There are a lot of “skincare centers” and “skincare spas” that offer “PRP deals”; unfortunately what may not know is that many of these places draw your blood in a regular blood draw tube, spin it in a centrifuge and call it “PRP” to use with your PRP skin treatment. The problem with using the “PRP” from a regular blood draw tube is that the regular blood draw tube when centrifuged does not give you “platelet Rich plasma” . The plasma obtained through this method will have slightly more platelets that your whole blood because the red cells are separated but it will not truly be “platelet rich plasma” which for medical use needs to be 3-6x the concentration of whole blood. Secondly the “PRP” obtained from a blood draw tube is not sterile and pyrogen free. This plasma is meant for blood tests only and not meant for re-injection into your body which can lead to infection, irritation or other problems.
In a medical facility, run by a Board certified physician I would expect that they would use one of the many certified and FDA approved PRP preparation systems. These PRP systems that are FDA approved also vary in the price and the quality of PRP generated from the system. When I first started cosmetic PRP treatments, I used the Harvest PRP because of many reasons ; firstly I was new to this treatment and did not know how well it would work. The options were a cosmetic PRP kit like Harvest which required a very small amount of blood from the patient and were very quick and easy to prepare by my staff. The other medical PRP kits required 3 to 6 times the amount of blood from the patient with much larger blood draw needle and took longer to prepare. Not knowing how effective the cosmetic benefits of this treatment were going to be for my patient, I chose the Harvest kit because of its smaller size, modest price and the fact that the distributor is located in Dallas which I thought was an advantage as far as training of my staff goes. I used the Harvest PRP system for first few months of starting the cosmetic PRP treatments in my Dallas and Southlake offices/ the results were not bad but not as dramatic as I would have liked. I started doing more and more regenerative treatments with PRP, first for skin aging, then for melasma and hyperpigmentation, then under eye hollows, then I expanded into hair regeneration and finally into treatment of sexual dysfunction for men and women. For more advanced cosmetic PRP treatments like the hair regeneration and PRP for sexual dysfunction, i looked into more sophisticated PRP preparation systems. I did try several systems in my offices and continued my research for what would be the best PRP system for regenerative skin and hair treatments for sexual dysfunction treatments. My extensive research for the best PRP led me to getting the Harvest Smartprep system, the most utilized system in major hospitals all over US for orthopedic surgery, spine surgery, extensive wound healing etc. For the last several months we now use the Harvest PRP system and I personally inject the PRP into the dermis with an advanced injection technique that I have developed after ongoing advanced training in cellular and regenerative medicine.
The Harvest system Platelet rich plasma (PRP) is a concentrated blood sample that contains high levels of platelets, a critical component of the wound healing process. Platelets contain growth factors that are responsible for stimulating tissue generation and repair. Growth factors derived from platelets are responsible for soft tissue repair, bone regeneration, development of new blood vessels, and stimulation of the wound healing process.
Harvest PRP delivers a concentration of autologous platelets and growth factors that is roughly 4-6 times greater than that found in whole blood. Unlike other products, it delivers a broad range of growth factors in the proper concentration and ratios to help optimize conditions for healing.2,15,16 Clinical studies have shown that application of PRP can help reduce bleeding, minimize pain, reduce infection rates, and optimize overall healing.
