PRP Hair Loss Therapy for Androgenic Alopecia in Men

Androgenic Alopecia or pattern baldness is the most common cause of hair loss in men and women. It affects roughly  ONE in Two men by the age of 50 years. It is a genetic hair disorder which is slowly progressive and does not get better with age. Usually, there is a family history of pattern hair loss on one or both sides of the family in men and or women family members

Androgenic alopecia or male-pattern hair loss (MPHL) in men often presents as a receding hairline. Male pattern hair loss is believed to be due to a combination of genetics and the male hormone dihydrotestosterone

Treatment Options for Male Pattern Hair Loss

The hair loss in male pattern baldness is from sensitivity to DHT which is one of the byproducts of Testosterone. Several treatment options are available for male pattern hair loss, the results of each treatment will vary due to individual differences in response. The treatments include topical Minoxidil, oral 5α-Reductase inhibitors (5-ARIs) such as finasteride and dutasteride. We do not prescribe oral 5α-Reductase inhibitors (5-ARIs) due to their potential side effects on the sexual performance.

For total hair loss with a complete absence of hair follicles, excessive thinning and scarring of the scalp, PRP is not the right treatment. These individuals should consider hair transplant which is now done with PRP for better results.

PRP Hair Loss Treatment-  Mild to Moderate Hair Loss From Male Pattern Baldness Lasting Longer Than 5 Years

For most patients presenting with mild to moderate hair loss lasting longer than 5 years we recommend a series of TWO PRP + ACell hair loss treatments, 2-3 months apart followed by a single treatment every 8-12 months to maintain the results.

PRP Hair Loss Treatment-  Mild and early Hair Loss From Male Pattern Baldness Lasting Less Than 5 Years

For most patients presenting with mild and early hair loss lasting less than 5 years, we recommend a series of THREE PRP ALONE  hair loss treatments, 2-3 months apart followed by a single treatment every 6-8 months to maintain the results.

Each PRP hair loss treatment is done in Southlake and Dallas office by Dr Malik in about 90 minutes and included PRP scalp injections, followed by PRP topical application with the Micropen and a 20-30 minute  LLLT (Low-Level Laser Therapy) session to boost the treatment results.
