The area of under-eye and upper eyelid is one of the first places to show age. The skin of this area is thinner, there is less volume below the skin in this area and to make matters worse, the skin around the eyes is very sensitive.  Loss of fat below the skin and loss of skin thickness and elasticity in this area are what lead to aging eye with  fine lines, wrinkles, poor texture and development of under eye hollows. For deeper under eye hollows, most individuals will likely need a small amount of carefully placed HA dermal filler along with any other treatment best suited to improve skin firmness and tightness of this area. Fine lines, wrinkles and poor texture of mild to moderate severity around the eyes is best treated with DOT CO2 fractional laser resurfacing in our Dallas office. We now combine all laser and radiofrequency treatments with your PRP for enhanced results, quicker recovery and less downtime.

What is The DOT CO2 fractional laser?

The CO2 fractional laser provides skin resurfacing. DOT Therapy (Dermal Optical Thermolysis) is a minimally invasive, non-surgical way to transform skin and enhance its overall appearance. The CO2 fractional laser precisely creates thousands of microscopic holes (DOT’s) in your skin, which induce immediate skin tightening and stimulate new collagen growth. Patients are often amazed at how tight their skin feels immediately after the procedure. DOT Therapy is designed to improve the skin’s texture and tone and to fight fine lines, deep wrinkles, acne and other scars.

What is PRP and How Does It Affect The Results Of DOT Therapy?

PRP stands for Platelet Rich Plasma; it is derived from your own blood and constitutes the component of your blood that is responsible for repairing tissue injury anywhere in your body. Use of PRP in medicine is based on the fact that PRP enhances healing of injured sites through regeneration of healthy tissue by using  the “healing power” of your own blood. Your body has the capability to seal a wound and repair it with production of new tissue. This repair process is carried out by a component of your blood called, “platelets”. In event of an injury your platelets start a cascade of repair by forming a fibrin mesh called Platelet Rich Fibrin Matrix PRFM. the function of PRFM is to seal the wound and release a number of tissue regenerating growth factors. In case of skin injuries, these growth factors activate Fibroblasts, your collagen producing cells in skin, to synthesize new collagen and elastin for effective repair of the injury. The platelets activated by tissue injury also stimulate your body’s multipotent stem cells to accelerate the repair of the injury.

The role of PRP in DOT therapy or other skin resurfacing treatments is to provide platelet growth factors to the freshly created laser induced micro-injuries for quicker healing, shorter downtime and enhanced collagen/elastic synthesis which eventually translates into better results from your laser skin resurfacing treatments in Dallas. Dr. malik also injects some of your PRP into the dermis and below the dermis during your DOT therapy for under eye wrinkles to enhance tissue regeneration for lost volume in this area. PRP injection treatment along with DOT CO2 may be sufficient for mild uner-eye hollows in most individuals.

How Many DOT COe laser + PRP Treatments Are Needed For Under-eye Wrinkles?

Three sessions are recommended for best results in most individuals, treatments are done 4-6 weeks apart, additional treatments may be needed for more advanced aging. Individual results vary. The CO2 laser resurfacing is available in our Dallas office only. For the under-eye area and upper eyelids, it is best to use lower energy and lesser depth for the laser settings, applied multiple times a few weeks apart for safer induction of collagen in this delicate area. Lower energy and less depth also means very little discomfort and very little downtime. Most people experience mild redness and mild swelling for 2-4 days. PRP injections may lead to occasional bruising.
