Cosmetic PRP -Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy in Dallas and Southlake

PRP or Platelet Rich Plasma is part of your blood which is responsible for repairing tissue injury. Use of PRP in medicine is based on simply the “healing power” of your own body. Think for a moment how your body repairs itself in event of an injury. When you incur a small cut or abrasion, you don’t bleed to death. Your body has the capability to seal a wound and repair it with production of new tissue. This repair process is carried out by a component of your blood called, “platelets”. I event of an injury your platelets start a cascade of repair by forming a fibrin mesh to seal the wound which in turn releases a number of growth factors. These growth factors activate Fibroblasts, your collagen production factories, to generate new collagen to strengthen the repair of the injury. The platelets activated by tissue injury also stimulate multipotent stem cells to accelerate the repair of the injury.

Over the last few years this healing function of platelets has been extensively utilized in various fields of Medicine to repair tissue injury. The vast majority of PRP in wound healing has been studied in Orthopedics and sports medicine; Physicians have been successfully utilizing PRP for quicker recovery after joint, muscle and tendon injury. PRP treatment is a popular treatment for professional athletes such as football players, golfers and basketball players.

Treatment Of Melasma and Hyperpigmentation with PRP Dermal Injections And Microneedling:

Melasma and hyper-pigmentation are common skin conditions in all skin types. The incidence and severity of melasma and deep skin pigmentation is higher in people with darker skin. Mild hyper-pigmentation and melasma can frequently be successfully treated with prescription skin lightening agents alone or in combination with medical microdermabrasion and or chemical peels. Care needs to be exercised with microdermabrasion and chemical peels because darker skin can respond to aggressive skin abrasion and chemical peeling with “post-inflammatory pigmentation” or PIP; which is what makes treating hyper-pigmentation and melasma a challenge and I do like a challenge once in a while!.

The unfortunate reality is that melasma and hyper-pigmentation tends to recur upon sun exposure and repeated application of skin lightening agents with very diligent sun protection is needed for effective reversal of pigmentation with any method. In the years of my practice I have come across quite a few patients who respond minimally to traditional prescription skin lightening cremes with or without in office microdermabrion and chemical peels. Until recently, there was no option for these individuals.

Improvement of Under-eye  Wrinkles and Mild Eyelid Laxity With Non-surgical Treatments in Dallas

Photo is of Dr. Malik’s patient, before and after a single DOT CO2 fractional laser treatment, without PRP , individual results may vary

The area of under-eye and upper eyelid is one of the first places to show age. The skin of this area is thinner, there is less volume below the skin in this area and to make matters worse, the skin around the eyes is very sensitive.  Loss of fat below the skin and loss of skin thickness and elasticity in this area are what lead to aging eye with  fine lines, wrinkles, poor texture and development of under eye hollows. For deeper under eye hollows, most individuals will likely need a small amount of carefully placed HA dermal filler along with any other treatment best suited to improve skin firmness and tightness of this area. Fine lines, wrinkles and poor texture of mild to moderate severity around the eyes is best treated with DOT CO2 fractional laser resurfacing in our Dallas office. We now combine all laser and radiofrequency treatments with your PRP for enhanced results, quicker recovery and less downtime.
