Acne and other scars a common skin concern among millions of people. Traditionally scars are difficult to treat and require multiple treatment modalities for improvement. We have treated over a dozen patients for acne scars with microneedling + PRP injection and topical application over the last few months and have seen better than expected results with the combination of Microneedling and PRP for our acne and other scar patients.
Melasma and hyper-pigmentation are common skin conditions in all skin types. The incidence and severity of melasma and deep skin pigmentation is higher in people with darker skin. Mild hyper-pigmentation and melasma can frequently be successfully treated with prescription skin lightening agents alone or in combination with medical microdermabrasion and or chemical peels. Care needs to be exercised with microdermabrasion and chemical peels because darker skin can respond to aggressive skin abrasion and chemical peeling with “post-inflammatory pigmentation” or PIP; which is what makes treating hyper-pigmentation and melasma a challenge and I do like a challenge once in a while!.
The unfortunate reality is that melasma and hyper-pigmentation tends to recur upon sun exposure and repeated application of skin lightening agents with very diligent sun protection is needed for effective reversal of pigmentation with any method. In the years of my practice I have come across quite a few patients who respond minimally to traditional prescription skin lightening cremes with or without in office microdermabrion and chemical peels. Until recently, there was no option for these individuals.
Completed under physician supervision, our microdermabrasion treatments aim to gently resurface superficial layers of the skin while improving skin tone, warding off acne, and reducing the appearance of fine lines and pores. We use the diamond tip microdermabrasion method and have two different microdermabrasion systems, The Viora Pristine microdermabrasion system in Southlake and the Diamondtome microdermabrasion system in Dallas for a variety of individual needs, and both systems deliver medical grade microdermabrasion with no downtime following treatments. Prior to the first session, patients meet with a certified clinical assistant/ medical aesthetician for an initial evaluation which includes a review of medical history and prior experience with skin treatments; Dr. Malik reviews every evaluation with her team to determine the optimum skincare treatment plan. Each treatment lasts approximately 15-20 minutes.
Microdermabrasion treatment by itself gradually improves skin surface texture, fine lines and appearance of pores but it makes a GREAT complimentary treatment to almost any other skin program for aging, acne, pigmentation correction, scar reduction and so on.
Dermal aging manifests as thinning of skin, loss of skin firmness and development of deeper wrinkles. All these dermal changes are due to loss of collagen and elastin in the dermis. The most common patient concerns from dermal aging are:
- Sagging of skin leading to jowls, pre-jowls, nasolabial folds
In the world of cosmetic medicine today, a large variety of cosmetic treatments are used for non-surgical skin rejuvenation, scar and stretch mark reduction. These include radio-frequency, light and laser procedures.
The popularity of nonsurgical skin rejuvenation and scar reduction has been rising due to minimal risk and rapid recovery from these procedures. The downsides of non-surgical skin treatments are the limitation of improvement and the variation of results from person to person due to differences in individual healing response to any particular treatment.
Many non-surgical cosmetic treatments for anti-aging, scar and stretch mark reduction work by inducing a controlled dermal wound and induce collagen synthesis by your body to heal the wound; the cosmetic results of these non-surgical cosmetic treatments depend on the quality and quantity of collagen synthesized by your body to heal the micro-wounds.

Micropen Treatments for Acne Scars in Dallas and Southlake:
The MicroPen device works with the body’s natural immune response in a treatment called “percutaneous collagen induction therapy” (PCIT). The instrument’s tiny needles penetrate the epidermis and dermis (2 outer layers of skin) in a very controlled, precise manner. These micro-injuries to the skin stimulate the body to produce new collagen and elastin – the support system of healthy skin. As the treated area heals, smoother, more even, healthier-looking skin appears.
The Eclipse MicroPen™ provides our skin care patients in Dallas and Southlake, Texas with an effective minimal to no downtime treatment option for naturally revitalizing the look and feel of their skin. Eclipse Micropen treatment (also known as microneedling, Skin pen or Dermapen) is a minimally invasive treatment associated with virtually no discomfort and no downtime.
Collagen Induction Therapy or CIT with Automated Micro-Needling is a new innovation in aesthetic medicine for the treatment of fine lines, acne scars and improvement of the skin’s overall appearance. During this cosmetic skin treatment, micro needles are used to induce controlled micro-wounds to the surface layer of your skin which stimulates collagen and elastin for wound healing. The skin’s repair process results in a thicker dermis with softer appearance of wrinkles and scars. Eclipse Micropen™ also creates superficial micro-channels which allow topical skin treatment gels, anti-oxidant, and anti-inflammatory creams and serums to be absorbed more effectively into the skin.
