Non-surgical Skin Tightening- Why You Need to Consider This Treatment Before Botox and Dermal Fillers?
As we age, our skin gets thinner and loses elasticity which results in wrinkles, folds, skin sagging, jowls and so forth. The most commonly available non-surgical skin treatments aimed at correcting wrinkles, folds and sagging work best with optimum skin density and firmness which is why for individuals with less than optimum skin density, it is recommended to consider non-surgical skin tightening before considering Botox, dermal fillers, and NovaThreads.
Two treatments have led to consistently great results for improving skin density and firmness; Microneedle Fractional Radiofrequency(MFR) and Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) Injections.
What is Microneedle Fractional Radiofrequency (MFR)?
Microneedle Fractional Radiofrequency (MFR) delivers fractional radio-frequency into the middle dermis (deeper layer of skin) with very fine insulated microneedles for tightening of existing
collagen and induction of new collagen. MFR Non-surgical face and neck tightening treatments are best for individuals with mild skin sagging, thinning skin, deep scars, and wrinkles. During the Cosmetic Surgery and Aesthetic Dermatology 2016 meeting, injectable radio-frequency was presented as “the most effective treatment for non-surgical skin tightening” by Jason D. Bloom, M.D., a facial plastic surgeon.
What is PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) Injection Treatment?
PRP is a concentrated solution of your platelets, the blood cells responsible for your body’s healing ability. Upon injection into the skin, platelets release several growth factors which activate dormant skin cells and initiate your healing cascade to regenerate new skin cells, collagen and hyaluronic acid. Not ALL PRP kits are equal; for effective skin cell and collagen regeneration, a higher concentration of healthy platelets is essential. We use the Harvest PRP kit, which yields a 4X-6X concentration of healthy platelets for maximum collagen and healthy tissue regeneration response.
How Many Treatments Are Needed?
We typically recommend a series of three MFR treatments, 4 weeks apart with one PRP injection treatment usually at the time of the first MFR for most people. Individual response varies and additional treatments may be needed for your personal best results.
Is There Any Downtime?
PRP injection treatment leads to mild swelling and occasionally bruising. The swelling may last 2-4 days, the bruising follows the natural course and may take 10-14 days to heal.
MFR treatment leads to very mild swelling and mild to moderate redness which may last 24-48 hours.
Does it Hurt?
We apply topical numbing creme and add lidocaine to the PRP mixture to reduce discomfort. Individual pain tolerance varies. We offer a single dose of pain medication prior to the treatment to those with extra facial sensitivity. Most of our patients report mild discomfort during the treatment without the pain medication.
How Long Do The Results Last?
The treatment works by regenerating your own collagen, the results will last as long as it will take you to break down newly generated collagen which varies with genetics and lifestyle. We recommend a maintenance treatment every 6-12 months to keep the results.
How Soon Can I do the Botox and Dermal Filler Treatments?
You can have the Botox and Dermal filler treatment in between the MFR treatment sessions, we recommend to wait at least 3 weeks after the Botox and dermal filler treatment before the next MFR.
How Soon Can I do the NovaThread Treatment?
The NovaThreads, if needed to lift the pre-jowls, should always be done after finishing the MFR treatments. The Microneedle Fractional Radiofrequency will dissolve the NovaThreads and should be delayed for at least three months after placing NovaThreads
