Photograph is of our patient, before and 4 months after PRP + ACell treatment. Patient had five PRP hair regeneration treatments elsewhere prior to her visit at our practice. Individual resulst vary
About 10 months ago we started the PRP + ACell injection treatment for androgenic alopecia or male and female pattern hair loss in our Dallas and Southlake offices. I had researched extensively on the science, side effects, realistic results and mechanism of action of PRP hair loss treatments and attended key conferences on the latest advances on PRP for cosmetic skin and hair loss treatments all over US but I am never 100% sure of the results until I see the outcome of any treatment in my own patients.
The patient photographed above is especially interesting to me because this particular patient had FIVE PRP (alone) scalp treatments, at 2 month intervals before her first treatment at our office. Her last PRP scalp treatment prior to her visit at our office was 2 months before her first visit at our office. According to the patient she noticed no improvement in her hair density or quality after five PRP injection treatments of the scalp over the span of 12 months. She also reported that the degree of her hair loss had not changed after the PRP hair loss treatments either. As you may know that regenerative treatments like PRP for hair regeneration do not work equally on everyone. There is a small percentage of people who do not respond to the PRP hair regeneration. This was my concern with the above patient and I discussed this at length before her treatment. In fact, it is safe to say that I discouraged the patient from getting her PRP + ACell treatment done at our Southlake office on the day of her consultation for treatment of female pattern hair loss. I did not want to do the treatment because I do not like disappointments at all and I was not sure how much difference the addition of ACell will make to the hair regenerating effect of PRP.
I know that the type of PRP kit used for hair regeneration also makes a difference in final outcome. The patient did no know what type of PRP kit was used but it was safe to assume that it was a professional PRP kit and not blood centrifuged in the blood draw tube (which does not work the same way). We proceeded with the PRP + ACell treatment as we do in all of our non-surgical hair regeneration patients and it was uneventful. The patient reported a reduction in hair loss and appearance of new hair follicles a few weeks after her treatment. She was not placed on any other hair loss medications at the time of this treatment. The above photo is 4 months later just before her next treatment. The “after ” photo has BLT topical numbing creme on the scalp and hair which makes the hair matted down and appear less dense. She now has full hair growth in the areas of almost complete hair loss before the treatment.

We have treated numerous patients with androgenic alopecia with PRP +ACell and have had very good results with our PRP + ACell treatments for hair regeneration. I believe that practice of good medicine is all about trying a new treatment after due diligence, evaluating the outcome and making modifications for even better outcome. This year we have made some changes to the PRP + ACell treatments for hair regeneration in Dallas and Southlake. These changes are as follows:
- We have changed the treatment protocol to single instead of two treatments
- We have increased the amount of ACell to multifold in each single treatment
- We are now using EmCyte or Harvest PRP systems for hair regeneration in Dallas and Southlake for a much higher platelet count
- We are following each PRP + ACell treatment with 20 minutes of LLLT (Low Level Laser Therapy) on the day of PRP + ACell treatment, followed by two additional LLLT treatments for 60 minutes each at 2 week intervals.
- We are adding oral medication (for women only) to reduce hair loss
- We are requesting ALL or our non-surgical hair regeneration patients to use Nioxin shampoo to reduce scalp DHT build up
- We are requesting All of our hair loss treatment patients to use topical Monoxidil (exception is true minoxidil allergy)
I believe the above changes will improve the outcome tremendously from the non-surgical hair regeneration treatment with PRP + ACell and equally importantly, our patients will only have to be put through the rather uncomfortable scalp injection process ONCE.
We expect most people to see improvement in hair density, hair quality in 3-4 months following a single treatment. Most individuals will need a follow up in 12 months and may need a maintenance treatment every 12-24 months.
