Xeomin or Botox- What is the Difference?

XEOMIN® (incobotulinumtoxinA) is a prescription medicine that is injected into muscles and used to temporarily improve the look of moderate to severe frown lines between the eyebrows (glabellar lines) in adults.

Xeomin is an FDA-approved alternative to Botox for glabellar wrinkles. Xeomin was approved for reduction of dynamic  wrinkles  in Europe in 2005 and in US in 2010. Xeomin and Botox work the same way to paralyze muscles and smooth wrinkles. They share the identical active ingredient- botulinum toxin A.

One of the advantages of Xeomin is that it is considered a more purified version of the active component of the toxin. Botulinum toxin contains an active ingredient; the toxin itself and a protein envelope. While the active ingredient (the botulimun toxin)is the same in Botox and Xeomin, the protein envelope is a much lighter weight particle in Xeomin which in my practice means it can be more easily manipulated around the eye brows with slightly less risk of it weighing down the eyebrows, and leading to eye brow drop.

Recent studies show similar onset of action and similar duration of action for both Xeomin and Botox. We have used Xeomin for wrinkle reduction in Dallas and Southlake for over three years and our patients have been very pleased with their Xeomin treatments. Like with any new medication, we were skeptical at first and we compared the results of Xeomin treatments in our Southlake and Dallas patients with Botox treatments in Southlake and Dallas and found no difference in the onset of action and the duration of action between the two products.

We use Xeomin for dynamic wrinkle reduction of forehead, crow’s feet, chin wrinkles, necklace lines.

We have successfully used Xeomin for hyperhidrosis treatments in Dallas and Southlake.

We use Xeomin for non-surgical facial slimming and jaw reduction in Dallas and Southlake with excellent patient response and patient satisfaction.
